Missed.

Matthew 6 | Seek First.

It felt like a relay race. The moment I stopped running, the train started its run. And I was supposed to be on that train - not on this platform. We missed it, so we laughed. The simple mistake of losing sight of where we were and where we were going added approximately two hours to this adventure.

Here I am, homework on my right, Em on my left, and the right train somewhere in the near future. We haven't lost anything, though. Instead, we've gained two more hours of productivity, a whole blog post, and a life lesson.

Don't miss this:

"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matt 6:28-33 - emphasis added).

Just an hour before missing the train, I was sitting at a sidewalk cafe drinking iced tea lemonade, contemplating the sun set and reading this very passage. My hope is that you, too, will notice how these words ring superbly true in a very relevant and very real way. They certainly rang in my ears today, much louder than the railroad crossing's rushing screeches. Of all the things to miss, including an infrequent train, don't miss the call to seek first the kingdom of God. When world and its troubles flow too quickly for you to keep up, don't lose sight of where you are and where you are going.

"...Sufficient for the day is its own trouble" (Matt. 6:34).

Rest.

Eclipsed.
